NIRVANA HAS LAUNCHED!

On July 22, 2012 we stopped referring to Nirvana as "beta", began charging for the service (for new users) and made the transition from being a bootstrapped startup into a sustainable business.  We posted an announcement about this on the blog and sent an email to many of you. In case you missed it you can read it here.

In a nutshell:

  • Nirvana now offers two tiers, Basic and Plus
  • Nirvana Basic is free, but has restrictions (more on this below)
  • Nirvana Plus gives you every feature we offer for $5 per month or $39 per year
  • Nirvana Plus is available to early adopters for $29 per year but you must subscribe by September 30, 2012.

*An early adopter is anyone who created a Nirvana account before July 22, 2012.

This Nirvana Plus thing: what exactly am I getting for $5 per month?

Good karma, peace of mind, and everything you're used to seeing inside Nirvana. If you've been with us since beta (prior to July 22) you've actually been using Nirvana Plus for awhile... we've just been giving it away for free all this time in return for feedback and forgiveness when there were bumps along the way.

Everything you'd get for $5 per month, but at a discount.


But you said something about getting Nirvana Plus for $29 per year? That's like ten bucks better than $39.

Yes! If you think $29 for the year is too good to pass up, login to your account and click on the "Nirvana Plus" button at the top of your screen and follow the steps. Be sure to do so by September 30, 2012 to lock-in your $29 subscription rate. After that the price reverts to the normal $39 per year.

We wanted to thank you for jumping on board early, proving to us that there really was an audience for a service like Nirvana, and sticking with us through all of the ups and downs during beta. Offering a discount seemed like the right thing to do.


I like Nirvana, but what happens if I don't want to pay?

On October 1, 2012 we will be converting all non-paying user accounts to Nirvana Basic.

You'll still be able to login and use Nirvana, create tasks, complete tasks, log tasks, delete tasks, manage projects, etc... but if you have more than 5 projects in your system you won't be able to create any new ones (unless you upgrade to Nirvana Plus). Don't worry, we won't delete any projects already in your system. If you have more than 5 projects those will continue to live on. There is also a maximum limit of 2 areas. If you already have more than 2 areas you get to keep them, but you won't be able to create any new ones. You can upgrade to Nirvana Plus at any time and these restrictions will magically go away.


Why are you charging money? I like things that are free!

Well here's the thing. Running a business means bringing in revenue, and we all gotta make a living. Food, family, shelter, having a life... so having a price seemed a natural solution. There are many free services out there and we certainly use a lot of them. Of course, we pay for a lot of services too -- when we think the service is worth it. If you think Nirvana is worth a few bucks a month, please consider tossing a fiver into the hopper. If not, well, we won't take it personally.


OK, that's it, we're through! I'm breaking up and movin' out! How do I export my data?

Really? Is it something we said? What if we promise to do the dishes more often? Still no? We can still be friends though, right? Not even? Bummer. In all seriousness though, it's your data so here's what you do:

  • Login to your Nirvana account.
  • Select "My Account" from the pulldown menu at the top-right of the screen.
  • You should now be looking at your Account Dashboard, and if you scroll down on that page you'll see a few options: export as excel (csv), xml or json. 
  • Click on your preferred format, et voila. 

If you also want to delete your data from our servers, there is a link at the very bottom of the page labeled "delete my account" -- click that and follow the steps. You'll be on your way in no time.


How do I delete my account?

If you want to export your data first, please read the paragraph just above this one. If you just want to blow away your account without exporting, here's what you do:

  • Login to your Nirvana account. 
  • Select "My Account" from the pulldown menu at the top-right of the screen.
  • You should now be looking at your Account Dashboard. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for a link labeled "delete my account" -- click that and follow the steps.

I think $39 a year is a great value for what you get.  As you add features and improve NirvanaHQ further, the $39 investment becomes even better.

P.S.  If early adopters are users that created an account before July 22, 2012, that makes me a fossil.   :-)

I still admire your product and would have no problem supporting with $39.00 / year. But I can not seal the deal untill I can put the Nirvana app on my android.

When do you suppose that might be?

Yeah, I'm in  likewise situation. You guys definetly have the best webapp out but until that android app comes out i'm reluctant on taking the dive. When it does though, you'll have alot more android users I think. (Ios has alot of gtd/productivity options and android does not. (Shuffle counts though)

Congratulations!

I have to agree with George and Shane - since I left the Apple platforms, I badly missed Omnifocus, Nirvana is the first alternative that fits my needs. But until there is a working Android app I am not willing to subscribe.

Hi.. im an early adopter and signed up right away to the $39 plan.. i sent out an email support yesterday to see if I can get that $29 plan but no response up to now...  any news on those who signed up for $39 but an early adopter?

I've hung on the fringe, since following @Proximo's move from another platform (quite a while ago).  I continued to use that other platform as I watch Nirvana keep improving.  While I'm also an Android user, longing for an adequate mobile app, I am glad to throw my support (and $39) behind your team!  

Thank you for what you've put in it and for staying engaged with your community of fans/users!  Keep it up!

(BTW, an iPad app - instead of just a magnified, grainy iPhone app on an iPad - would also be very welcome!)
